  Serving with a date in mind.

  my parents had a "feeling" that the end would come in october 1994. i have no clue what this was based on, but i remember this was preceeded by other "feelings" about when the end would come that didn't materialize.

  i guess they just did it to get keep the feeling of urgency since the end was "just around the corner".

  my dad was an elder and i don't remember anyone making a stink about it when he voiced his ideas in service... just a big hearty chuckle all around with a "you may be right!

  The "Cult" word

  as someone who almost got sucked into the jw's, but never joined,i was wondering how did those of you here that were or are jw's respond to people who labeled you as a cult?

  did you view them as ignorant or did it make you feel more justified in what you followed because it was "persecution"?

  did you even listen to the arguments of people who viewed you as a cult member as to why they thought of you as such?

  I always shrugged it off as nonscence. I always felt that us JDubs were pretty normal and that cult members were really waked out brainwashed type people. Looking back I can say I was young and truely nieve.

  My dad was into amateur radio big time back in the 80's. I can remember his old computer desk down in the basement with his TRS-80 and all kinds of HAM radio equipment. Your picture reminded me of that.

  Darth Tetragrammaton, that CANNOT POSSIBLY be a recent picture. No 31 year old looks like they're 17. If it is recent, then I f***ing hate you. ;)

  LOL...actually that picture goes back to October of 2004 when I was 30. You would be able to see my crows feet a lot better if I was smiling more. P.S. Dont be afraid to pronounce the sacred name.

  Friday District Convention notes: Control, control, control

  well, one third of the convention is over, i had no choice but to attend due to my current situation.. the talks were worse than last year, and as usual if you have seen the program you will not find jesus in any of the talk titles - in fact, the only time jesus is mentioned is during a prayer or in connection with the ministry.. when you become aware of how sidelined jesus is, you can't help but notice that jehovah's witnesses are a modern version of the old testament religion - it's all about control, be attentive, obey the "faithful and discreet slave" etc etc, in stark contrast to belief and salvation through jesus.. only the talks with midly interesting material or that had ridiculous phrases used by the speaker are shown here.. friday.

  9:50 be attentive to jehovah's promises of deliverance .

  would you believe that this 20 minute talk was solely about being attentive to the program?

  Can you help by pointing me in the direction of some online resources that demonstrate this? I have found a large number of sites that claim to "Prove the DECEPTION!" and such like and then proceed to embarrass themselves with large shouty fonts and lots of bright colours but no real substance.

  The large shouty fonts and bright colours are done for a reason. They’re an attempt to get a point across to an indoctrinated JDub quickly and effectively. Unless you’ve been on the inside of this cult studying it’s doctrines for years you could easily overlook many of the subtle aspects of its controlling nature. The average JDub is programmed to avoid such material, however if it’s stumbled across inadvertently and the written word makes enough of an impression to fix itself in the readers mind it can give an individual a matter to contemplate for some time and thus sow seeds of doubt in ones mind.

  I suggest thoroughly reading through the material found at http://www.reexamine.org/quotes/ This is a collection of WTBS quotes that clearly show how the publishing company has controlled the lives of its members while constantly changing it’s doctrine that is supposedly bible based. This is a copy of a website that the WTBS actually sued to have shut down on the basis of copyright infringement because they felt it was too embarrassing.

  Your eating habits

  tell us about your eating habits, are you health conscious do you avoid synthetic additives in food such as artificial flavours and preservatives and generally all processed food, are you vegetarian, vegan, do you buy organic food out of fear of pesticides, do you eat too much, do you go on diets often etc .

  i was shocked to read somewhere that 90% of the food americans eat is processed.

  it saves time using such food but....

  My wife prepaires all my meals. She's a real health conscience nut too. She would be a vegetarian if it weren't for the fact that I'm a carnivour through and through. She even packs my lunch for me and goes as far as to butter my bread, rolls, biscuts, etc.... She has created a monster though. I'm totally dependant on her. I can't even boil water with out her. I would certainly starve to death if anything were to happen to her.

  What songs got you through good or tough times?

  i've been in an upbeat mood lately.

  i don't know if it's all the exercise that i'm doing or what but i've not been moody all 3 weeks.one thing that i've noticed, is that i've listened to certain songs that made me forget about "her" and move on with bigger and better things.

  when i was depressed i listened to some songs from tool, some from the cure, barbra manning, the old babyface songs,some from sade, sweetback, and maxwell and everything but the girl.
